IBM is one of the most recognized names in the global technology industry. As a leader in key markets including cloud solutions, server and storage systems, business intelligence and data analysis, it isn’t difficult to understand why so many organizations flock to IBM as their IT solution source.
Interestingly, IBM can trace its origins back more than a century to the late 1880s, and over that time, the tech leader has expanded not only its service portfolio, but also its partnership relations.
Up until recently, Grandview has enjoyed Silver Business Partner status with IBM, and we’ve leveraged this partnership to ensure that we’re bringing the best solutions and high-level expertise to our customers. Now, we’re pleased to announce that we’ve reached IBM Gold Business Partner Status, which isn’t just advantageous for us — it also benefits each of our current and future customers.
IBM: A Look Back
While IBM is one of the top mainstays in cloud, server, storage and big data solutions in the IT industry today, the organization got its start all the way back in 1888 when Dr. Alexander Dey invented the very first dial recorder. It was on the foundation of this invention that IBM was then incorporated in 1911, then known as the Computing Tabulating Recording Company, or C-T-R.
C-T-R branched out following World War I, responding to the needs of its customers and launching the first electric accounting machines in the 1920s. This development led C-T-R leaders to change the name of the company to the International Business Machines Corporation in 1924. By this time, the organization had expanded outside of the U.S. and had established three manufacturing plants across Europe.
The next decade brought further developments, and in 1932, IBM launched one of the very first research and development laboratories in New York. This was a major turning point in the technology field, as the industry previously focused on product creation and sales, as opposed to knowledge and research.
Over the next few decades, IBM leveraged its research and expertise to create some of the world’s first computer processors and, subsequently, some of the initial families of computers in the mid-1960s. Throughout the 80s and 90s, IBM continued to keep up and lead with technological advancements, debuting new generations of servers, cloud solutions and business intelligence solutions.
Today, IBM leads numerous critical IT marketplaces, spearheads annual conferences, such as the Data and AI Forum and IBM Think, and is known for its IT developments, research and expansive portfolio and educational resources.
The IBM Partner Ecosystem
An IBM partnership is highly coveted within the current IT field, and signals a commitment not only to supporting and reselling industry-leading IBM solutions, but also to expanding partners’ own IT competencies and expertise.
Currently, IBM offers four levels of partnership that come with their own unique benefits for businesses and their customers:
- Registered partners can access online training, IBM’s global solution directory and certain third-party discounts, enabling them to pass knowledge and expertise on to their clients.
- Silver partners get support for digital marketing as well as training vouchers to expand their expertise even further.
- Gold-level partners, like Grandview, receive program concierge support, event packages and more to expand their reseller reach and solution portfolios.
- Finally, Platinum-level partners can consult with IBM technical experts and receive a seat at the Senior IBM Executive roundtable events.
In essence, those within IBM’s PartnerWorld are provided access to cutting-edge and innovative training and educational materials, ensuring that partner businesses are continually keeping their fingers on the pulse of current technology industry. In addition, IBM partners are able to participate in annual events and to expertly provide IBM’s top-tier tech solutions to their customers.
